HMD Global may soon launch another affordable 4G-enabled Nokia feature phone: HDM Global sells more Nokia-branded features phones than smartphones every year, so it’s no wonder the Finnish company plans to expand its portfolio with new devices as often as possible. The Nokia 8110 4G seems to have been a market success for HMD, since the handset maker is considering launching a successor.
In an interview for DNA India, Ajey Mehta, vice president and country head India, HMD Global, said that his company is “exploring the possibility of launching a 4G feature phone at affordable prices.”
Apparently, the feature phone market share is growing rapidly for HMD Global, especially in emerging markets like India, which is why the company plans to expand its feature phone portfolio. HMD’s official claims there’s huge demand for such cheap devices and a major opportunity for his company take advantage of it.
We’re not really saying that the “banana phone” will receive a successor, but it would not be unrealistic to assume that HMD wants to capitalize on the success of the Nokia 8110 4G feature phone. Still, it’s a long way from planning a device and actually announcing it, so let’s just wait and see what HMD has in store for the feature phone segment.
