China-only Nokia X7 foreshadows international Nokia 7.1 Plus with Snapdragon 710 : HMD Global’s fourth Nokia-branded smartphone with a notch is official in China (and for China), dwarfing both the X6, aka 6.1 Plus, and recently unveiled 7.1. We’re talking both literally and figuratively, as the freshly announced Nokia X7 comes with a jumbo-sized 6.18-inch display and solid upper mid-range features.

Perhaps the most important upgrade compared to the Snapdragon 636-powered Nokia 6.1 Plus and 7.1 is a Snapdragon 710 processor, built on frugal 10 nm architecture and currently used by a very small number of Android handsets worldwide.

The octa-core CPU is clocked at up to 2.2 GHz, supporting professional-grade camera applications and advanced AI functionality. It’s therefore unsurprising to see the Nokia X7 rock a state-of-the-art Zeiss-endorsed dual rear shooter setup with a primary 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor and a secondary 13MP lens for crisp portrait shots.

Portrait mode selfies should be pretty special too, courtesy of a 20MP front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. Even though the Nokia X7 is relatively lightweight, at 178 grams, and slender, at 7.97 mm, battery life doesn’t sound at all problematic, with a decently large 3,500 mAh cell under the hood.

The device runs Android 8.1 Oreo out the box, with Pie goodies set to roll out over-the-air before long, while memory and storage options cap off at 6 and 128GB respectively. Circling back to that extensive 6.18-inch screen, we should probably mention it’s being advertised as a “PureDisplay”, with FHD+ resolution in tow and an extra-wide 18.7:9 aspect ratio.

The “notchy” handset touts a solid 86.5 percent screen-to-body ratio, nonetheless accommodating a Nokia emblem on its chin, with the fingerprint scanner mounted on the back, and yes, the headphone jack still in its place.

Regional pricing will start at the rough equivalent of $245 (1,699 yuan) for a 4GB RAM/64GB ROM configuration, going up to CNY 1,999 ($290) and CNY 2,499 ($360) respectively with 6GB RAM and either 64 or 128 gigs of internal storage.

Right now, there are no words on international availability, but seeing as how the Nokia X5 and X6 have gone global under the 5.1 Plus and 6.1 Plus names, we’re definitely counting on a Western release for the Nokia 7.1 Plus/X7 as well. China-only Nokia X7 foreshadows international Nokia 7.1 Plus with Snapdragon 710.
